Display - Premier Shifts Resources from DSC to Projector
October 29, 2004
In light of the reluctance with which Japanese players are outsourcing DSC (Digital Still Camera) production to Taiwanese makers, Premier has decided to shift resources away from its DSC business toward projector production.

The company has been working on backward integration into projector components, and currently produces lenses and glass molds. Premier has also set up a facility in Fushan, China, calling on other projector components makers to move near the site. With the bulb supply shortage continuing to plague the industry, Premier has also developed alternative sources beyond OSRAM, such as Illuminate.

On the system side, the maker has rolled out DLP (Digital Light Processing) RPTV (Rear Projection Television) targeted chiefly at the European market, and orders from Japanese customers remain primarily for DLP models. Premier is aggressively decreasing the share of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) projector output, and at present only supplies such models for its branded business and to private label customers in Europe.
